Car Wreck

Unfortunately, it's true, I was in a car accident this afternoon.  Luckily no one was hurt.

It was my fault.  The traffic had started to flow forward, and I put on the gas, then the cars in front of me slammed on their brakes.  I was able to brake but hit the car well enough to jam in the hood of my car, likely trashing the radiator and causing fluids to leak all over.  Their car was an SUV-type and the bumper had barely a mark.

Now the part that's hard to admit:  I didn't have property damage coverage for my car.  I thought that I did.  I know at one time I didn't but thought I had changed it.  So, her car, which has hardly a scratch is covered but not a penny for mine.  It's gut-wrenching.  I'm soooo mad at myself.  There goes the chance to try this coming month.

Please send positive energy for the repair amount to be as low as possible.  I know it will be two hundred for the radiator plus labor.  Then, the body damage goes up from there.  Not sure if I can put some of that off or not.  I'm taking it in tomorrow for diagnoses.

  1. I am so so sorry, Kristina. A wreck sucks no matter what and then when we find out something slipped past us.... This sucks. :-(

  2. I am so sorry! I am praying for a low bill. I live in NJ. Insurance is mandated so we have to have everything covered. I never knew that there was any other coverage. So I was a little surprised when I read that. Sucks! And it figures your car suffered the damage. Couldn't be the other way around right!

  3. I am so sorry. Glad that you and the other driver are okay, but yes it sucks to have to deal with unexpected expenses. Hope the amount is not too much and it does not affect your plan for TTC.

  4. I'm glad you're ok. I hope the estimate comes in low. Car repairs are such a CF. Do you have a good mechanic or repair shop?

    1. Not really. I have to go somewhere close to where I live so I can drive the car there without overheating. So I'll probably go to one of two local shops that people have recommended on the neighborhood listserv. Aren't you in the Bay Area? Do you have one you like in the East Bay?

  9. Oh no! So sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you and the other person are not injured, but that really sucks about the insurance not covering your car. I will keep my fingures crossed for you that it isn't too expensive!
