Please help me decide!

I know, I know, it's my decision and no one can make it for me.  But I really need your opinions!

As I mentioned before, I currently have an appointment with a new doctor at Kai.ser Fremont on August 15th.  They told me I may be able to get in earlier if there were a cancellation, but that hasn't happened.  I do have some blood tests I'm doing on Day 2 of my next cycle, so as to not delay things further.

But I'm feeling uncertain about waiting out another whole month.  The waiting this month was already challenging, though I have to admit that my body feels a lot better without all the hormonal jacking up!

One weird sidenote:  I think my ovulation was totally delayed this cycle.  It normally falls on Day 15 at the latest, but today is Day 21, and it's the first day above coverline.  The last two days were slightly raised (like from 97.6 to 97.73) so that it looks like a stairstep pattern.  We'll see when the next cycle actually starts, since the luteal phase is not supposed to vary much.

Regardless, the big question I have for you is:  Should I try this coming cycle?

Reasons to try:  One, I have all the medications needed in my hot little hands, thanks in part to an awesomely generous donation from Kara - if you're reading, thank you, Kara!!!  Two, I am feeling excited about trying and this seems like a good sign.  Three, every month counts at this point, right?  And, even though I would have the same protocol, I did get three mature eggs, which is not bad.

Reasons not to try:  One, my savings is still somewhat depleted and it would be a stretch financially.  Once my teaching starts back up and my income starts coming in from the new job in a few weeks, I will be in a better place.  Two, I'm irritated with this doctor, which is why I'm switching to the new one.  Nothing will change in my protocol, and he'll still be Dr. Jaded Jim.

So, what do you think?

  1. I regret not trying again after my last. From that standpoint, I think you should! If you really want to, don't delay! I'm excited for you and wish you lots of luck this cycle!

    1. Well, you bring up a good point, the sperm part is where I'd be a bit stretched.

  3. Ultimately you have to go with what feels best for you, but if you REALLY want my opinion: go for it! Waiting sucks, plus you already have the meds. Why not give it a try?

  6. Erm,I'm on the fence. I'm a big believer in the adage that if what you are doing is not working, you need to change it before trying again.

I've seen different women respond differently to any given protocol/drug combination. Some work better with femara. Others better with clomid. You need to find your magic combination, and that is only achieved through trial and error. Can you get your current doctor to tweak your protocol? How many tries have you given it with the current regimen?

What I would also really recommend (I'm SUCH an armchair RE, sorry), would be to try different supplements. Blitzkrieg the next round.

    DHEA
    COq10
    Melatonin
    Myo-insoitol
    Vitamin D

All this stuff has been shown to make a difference in many cases.I've seen a lot of older women do much better with this, and I think for each of the individual components, there are studies showing some sort of difference.

    Best of luck!!

    1. Hi Jay, Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it. :) I'm on the DHEA and COQ10 and taking a prenatal and also live in very sunny climate - do you think still need D? I'll check out the Melatonin and Myo-insoitol - never heard of that one!

    2. I was Vitamin D deficient when I lived in sunny california, and taking a prenatal with 1000 IU/day and drinking a lot of vitamin D fortified milk. But then, I'm also southeast Asian (most of this population is deficient).

Based on everything I've read, its impossible to predict, based on merely lifestyle (unless you are a lifeguard or somebody who is out in the sun all day) what your vitamin D status is. Also, if you use sunblock, it greatly reduces production.

I think to NOT get your vitamin D levels checked and supplement if need be is overlooking a basic, and potentially very important thing.

  7. My two cents...every month is critically important so go for it. I also wanted to tell you I also had a consult @ KP Fremont and re: the meds used in their protocols...they have to be ordered from a non-KP pharmacy. Leftover meds could be used but for some reason you can't get them from a regular KP pharmacy. My consult was with Dr. P. He was very thorough and answered all my questions and used lots of hard stats in his responses. Anyway, thought I'd offer that info up and of course, wish you luck with this next cycle, no matter when it occurs.
